- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science
Dr. Birchfield is a native of Eastern Kentucky, where she grew up participating in various sports throughout her childhood. She spent years as a competitive gymnast, cheerleader, and softball player and continued her journey of cheerleading in college. Growing up as an athlete, she knew she wanted to work in a profession that focused on the human body and how to stay healthy and recover from injuries/illnesses without invasive measures or medications. She went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Morehead State University. After graduating, she continued her post-graduate studies in health and wellness promotion and physical education. While learning more about the health field and the different treatment options available for pain and injuries, she decided to pursue a career in chiropractic care.
Dr. Birchfield attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida, where she graduated with her Doctor of Chiropractic in September 2017. Her experience at Palmer taught her various adjusting techniques that can be used for all different population types and ages. She practices primarily using the Palmer Package, which includes Diversified, Thompson, Gonstead, and Activator techniques. She also received additional training in instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, kinesiology taping, trigger point therapy, cox flexion distraction protocol, and decompression therapy. Outside of the classroom, she spent her spare time working at local sporting events as a member of sports council and volunteering as a teacher’s assistant for technique class.
During her clinicals, Dr. Birchfield focused on treating and learning more about the pediatric and prenatal population. After seeing the life-changing benefits of chiropractic care during childhood and pregnancy, she decided to further her education with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association to obtain her certification. Techniques that she utilizes when working with the pediatric population include gentle fingertip pressure contact, craniosacral therapy, and instrument adjusting. Her true passion is helping children function at their optimal level and helping to support their nervous system throughout all stages of development. She is also certified in the Webster technique, which is an analysis used during pregnancy that helps to balance the pelvic musculature and ligaments, improve nervous system functioning, and promote a safer and more comfortable labor and delivery.
Dr. Birchfield currently resides with her fiancé in the South Hills and is excited to offer chiropractic care that focuses on the pediatric and prenatal population. She also enjoys working with local athletes and those searching for a more holistic approach to their health. During her free time, she enjoys visiting family; being active; and being outdoors with her pups, Teddy and Tucker.
